This is Mohammed. He’s the fourth generation of a family of copper beaters in the Fez medina and oversees our production on hand-beaten, tin-lined copper cookware and planters. This tree behind him was planted by his great grandfather, along with two others on the Place Seffarine. ‘It really was like being in the middle of the countryside as a kid,’ he remembers with his trademark grin. Two of the trees were cut down when the square expanded into a more commercial space, but this one endures as a symbol of strength and passion for this family. We feel hugely privileged to work with them, not just because as artisans they are second to none, but because it allows us to contribute, even just a tiny bit, to helping preserve their heritage.
