For all it has in medieval medina magic, Fès is desperately lacking in cool, green, watery spaces that you can actually jump into. Marrakech it is not. Which is why every summer we make it our mission to uncover the best pool-day passes in the city. This year, the unofficial AJ accolade goes to the newly opened Marriott (formerly the Jnane Palace in the Ville Nouvelle) with its wrap-around verandas exuberant with azaleas and orange trees, snooze-worthy day beds and shady swing chairs, plus, hamdulillah, the biggest pool in the city (day passes 250 dhs). Add in an excellent gazpacho (70 dhs) and truly stellar, bone-in, veal chop and pomme frites (210 dhs) at their bright and breeze Dolce Vita restaurant and you have a recipe for the perfect summer pool day. Enjoy dear travellers, enjoy.
